  1. Time for a "cook-in" as my mother used to call it... she would spend a day in the kitchen cooking all kinds of things and freezing them for future meals. I remember the enormous copper pot out on those days when she was cooking her famous spaghetti sauce. My father just found one last container of her sauce, hidden in the back of the freezer... it was an emotional experience for him to eat the food cooked by the hands of my mother who is now watching from the stars.....

    1. What nice imagery that comes from these words Valerianna, The copper pot and the smell of warm tomatoes and garlic...my throat tightened up when I read about your father eating the last food prepared by your mother....very emotional..indeed, but also very precious and sacred.

  2. oh, what memories tomatoes bring of my beloved Danish grampa who grew excellent tomatoes in abundance behind his garage in Iowa; that hot-vine smell in August humidity, baseball game droning drowsy from the radio on the screen porch; I want to dive right in.
