February Twilight

I stood beside a hill
Smooth with new-laid snow,
A single star looked out
From the cold evening glow.

There was no other creature
That saw what I could see--
I stood and watched the evening star
As long as it watched me.

A very long and very cold winter has a firm grip on us.
No, I have not wished it away…. I know that soon enough the
Winter of 2014 will be but a memory.

I dress warm when it's cold and drink hot soup.
I look long at the shadows on snow
 and listen to the quiet.

  1. Oh, Ramona, I remember a beautiful art-and-soul-contact with winter-stars in January 2013!! We both made some drawings, and later Hanna made the song: "Sternenstaub", because Thomas made a poem, inspired by the drawings.

Your words about your winter-situation are very, very beautiful.

Here this year we dont have a "real" winter: "Snow, stay in the mountains!"... :)

I check the weather in Germany and can see that my friends have a nice mild winter.

  2. You've got the right attitude, Ramona. I was thinking of you today; I bought some suet and want to make some birdie cakes.

    3. Ok, here is how I made them. I used a pre purchased suet cake that already had birdseed mixed in. The idea is to make it better! I melted the cake in a small pot turn off the heat when melted and added my ingredients. 1/2 to 1 cup of p-nut butter is plenty, if you have more nuts and seeds add a handful, raisins would be good too..just a few and I added about 1/2 cup of cornmeal or you could use oat meal. This helps thicken and bind and makes it extra tasty. You then spoon into a muffin tin and freeze. When frozen, run warm water over the bottom to release the cakes. Cheers!
